Douglas County Facilities Department is seeking a full-time Custodian to perform basic custodial maintenance in county buildings, restocking supplies, and securing offices after cleaning. This position performs basic and routine cleaning duties related to custodial maintenance of county buildings; restock supplies; secure offices after cleaned.
Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities required, will be considered. however, the following is preferred:
Knowledge of: Reasonable knowledge of cleaning methods, procedures, equipment, and supplies used in custodial maintenance in an institution or on a large scale. Skill in: Operation of power cleaning equipment; use appropriate cleaning products. Ability to: Adjust to priority changes and work well under pressure; estimate time and materials and manage time efficiently; courteously meet and deal effectively with other employees and the public.
Position requires bending, gripping with hands and fingers, hearing voice conversation and alarms, some keyboarding, color identification, kneeling, lifting up to 60 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing for long periods, stooping, twisting body, and walking. This position requires physical stamina to perform manual labor. Work is performed in an environment that involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring safety precautions including exposure to chemicals and fumes, dampness, bee stings, dust or pollen, noxious odors, noisy work areas that require wearing ear plugs/muffs, wearing rubber or plastic gloves, working in water, working shifts and working with solvents, grease, oil or ink
While not part of the initial applicant screening, successful candidates for this position may be required to pass a criminal history background prior to receiving an offer of employment, or as part of a contingent offer of employment. Successful candidates for this position must also pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check. The CJIS Clearance is done within the first 30 days of employment and is processed at no expense to the applicant/employee.
Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen. Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy. To determine if physically qualified to perform the essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.
