Responsibilities

  • Assign work schedules to custodial staff.
  • Inspect county facilities for cleanliness and safety.
  • Clean and dust glass, windows, tabletops, desks, blinds, vents, walls, woodwork, fixtures, furniture, cabinets, and hardware.
  • Sanitize, clean, and deodorize restrooms; empty garbage and replenish supplies.
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors.
  • Move and arrange chairs, tables, cabinets, and office equipment.
  • Mow lawns and trim shrubs; snow removal from sidewalks and entrances.
  • Ensure entrances and doors are secured and locked.
  • Change light bulbs and deliver supplies.
  • Attend safety and training sessions.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Custodian performs a variety of general cleaning and maintenance duties to keep all Lincoln County facilities healthy, safe, and clean. Responsibilities include floor care, cleaning restrooms, trash removal, grounds maintenance and other essential routine cleaning tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Basic knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and supplies. Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check. Must pass a physical examination.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous custodial experience and high school diploma or GED. Knowledge of floor and office cleaning products and equipment. Possession of a valid driver’s license and safe driving record.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of basic cleaning techniques, equipment, and supplies. Ability to perform moderately strenuous manual labor for extended periods of time. Capability to work independently. Ability to learn the operation of small, mechanized equipment and handheld power tools. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Ability to maintain professional appearance and demeanor.

Essential Functions

Actual daily time spent in any activity fluctuates depending on assigned responsibilities and the particular position within the department. The position may also include other duties as assigned. Incidental or non-essential functions are not included.

Assign work schedules to custodial staff. Perform inspection of the county facilities for proper cleanliness and safety.

  • Takes daily direction from Lead Custodian about duties performed including but not limited to: clean and dust glass, windows, tabletops, desks, blinds, vents, walls, woodwork, fixtures, furniture, cabinets, and hardware.
  • Sanitize, clean, and deodorize restrooms including toilets, sinks, walls, mirrors, doors, floors, and counters. Empty garbage and replenish supplies.
  • Sweep, vacuum, mop, strip, scrub, wax, and polish floors.
  • Empty garbage cans and recyclables and dispose of trash in the dumpsters.
  • Move and arrange chairs, tables, cabinets, and office equipment.
  • Perform duties such as mowing and trimming lawns and shrubs. Picking up debris and trash on courthouse grounds. Snow removal from sidewalks, steps, and entrances in inclement weather.
  • Ensure entrances and doors are secured and locked.
  • Change light bulbs and deliver supplies.
  • Attend classes and seminars in regard to safety and new techniques for building maintenance.
