Job summary

McPherson College is seeking a dependable Custodian to join our Facilities Management team. You will maintain classrooms, residence halls, offices, and public spaces to support a healthy, safe, and welcoming campus environment.

Typical hours are 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends for events. Prior custodial experience is helpful but not required; training will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Clean windows and chalkboards; assist with deep cleaning during breaks.
• Prepare facilities for events and activities; support campus safety and cleanliness.

What You'll Do

Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Cleaning classrooms, offices, residence halls, restrooms, and other campus facilities.
• Sweeping, vacuuming, mopping floors, dusting furniture, and cleaning drinking fountains.
• Emptying trash and recycling containers while replenishing paper products and restroom supplies.
• Cleaning windows, chalkboards, and other assigned areas.
• Assisting with deep cleaning projects during summer and academic breaks.
• Helping prepare campus facilities for special events and other activities as needed.
• Working with fellow custodians to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming campus.

Every day is a little different, and you'll have opportunities to assist with a variety of projects throughout the year.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who:

• Takes pride in producing quality work.
• Is dependable, honest, and self-motivated.
• Enjoys working independently while also being part of a team.
• Has good communication and customer service skills.
• Can manage assigned responsibilities with minimal supervision.
• Is able to perform the physical requirements of custodial work, including lifting up to approximately 30 pounds and remaining active throughout the workday.

Previous custodial or commercial cleaning experience is helpful but not required. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant work experience will be considered. A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn are just as important as prior experience.

Schedule

This is a full-time, 12-month position.

Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional evenings, weekend, or overtime work may be required to support campus events or operational needs.
