Sustainable Facilities Management Services (SFMS) is a fully integrated facilities management company specializing in “Green Building” methodology. Our core management team has over 50 years of experience in facilities management and consulting, serving federal, state, local governments, and the industrial and commercial markets. Our purpose is to contribute to the sustainability of the facilities we manage and improve the quality of life for the people working there.

We are currently seeking a Custodian for the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center in Laurel, MD. This role supports cleanliness and maintenance of public and employee areas, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.

Under the supervision of the Custodial Manager and on-site Supervisor, the Custodian performs various cleaning and light maintenance tasks, including:

1. Sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors
2. Cleaning restrooms, kitchens, and public areas
3. Emptying trash and recycling receptacles
4. Cleaning windows, mirrors, and interior glass
5. Restocking supplies (soap, paper towels, toilet paper, etc.)
6. Following all safety protocols and maintaining equipment
7. Performing occasional deep cleaning or special projects
8. Assisting with setup or breakdown of rooms for events or meetings

Qualifications include:

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Previous custodial or cleaning experience a plus
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Physical ability to lift, move, and operate cleaning equipment
• Attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
• COVID-19 vaccination required

Compensation details:

• Hourly Rate: $17.75 per hour
• Health & Welfare (H&W): Additional $4.98 per hour, provided as either employer-paid benefits or cash in accordance with the Service Contract Act (SCA)
• Part-Time Schedule: 16 hours/week
