Job summary

Central Community College is seeking a Custodian in Hastings to maintain a clean, safe campus environment for students and staff. The role includes cleaning classrooms and facilities, preparing spaces for sessions, securing buildings, and handling custodial equipment and supplies.

The position offers a comprehensive benefits package and requires a High School Diploma or GED. Open dates are 09/28/2026 and 11/16/2026, with a January 4, 2027 start potential.

Responsibilities

• Inspects assigned buildings to maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
• Cleans restrooms, classrooms, hallways, lounges, dining areas, study areas and other areas.
• Prepares classrooms for day and evening sessions by cleaning and arranging furniture.
• Secures buildings: locks doors/windows, turns off lights.
• Keeps custodian equipment clean and reports safety concerns and maintenance needs.
• Serves as contact for rooms, equipment, or directions.
• Stores custodial supplies and maintains inventory.
• Removes snow and applies icy melt materials.

Position Summary Information Qualifications Required High School Diploma or Equivalent General Summary Performs tasks necessary to maintain the campus in a safe, clean and presentable condition in order to provide a comfortable learning and working environment for students and staff. Will perform duties and responsibilities in accordance with college policies and procedures. Performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions Inspects assigned buildings in order to achieve and maintain a high standard of cleanliness.
Essential Functions Cleans restrooms, classrooms, hallways, lounges, dining areas, study areas and other areas. Work includes vacuuming, spot cleaning, carpet extracting, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and burnishing floors; dusting and wiping surfaces; cleaning and sanitizing bathroom fixtures and drinking fountains; emptying trash cans; washing windows; cleaning furniture; cleaning lenses, and sweeping entrances and window wells, cleaning lens, changing bulbs, maintaining campus recycling systems, etc.
Essential Functions Prepares classrooms for day and evening sessions by cleaning, arranging furniture, sets up and removes equipment and furniture needed for special activities on campus and completing other tasks as directed.
Essential Functions Is responsible for securing buildings (i.e. locking doors, windows, turning off lights, etc.)
Essential Functions Responsible for keeping custodian equipment clean; changing filters, bags, belts, and containers when needed; and reporting safety concerns, equipment failures, maintenance needs and unusual incidents to your supervisor.
Essential Functions Serves as contact person for students and staff who need rooms locked or unlocked, equipment or supplies delivered, directions to campus locations, emergency situations, inclement weather, etc.
Essential Functions Stores necessary custodial supplies and equipment neatly and safely. Maintain proper inventory in assigned areas.
Essential Functions Removes snow from steps, sidewalks, etc. Maintains snow logs and also applies icy melt materials.
