The University of New Mexico-Gallup is seeking a Custodian for the Gallup, NM campus. The position involves general custodial duties, including cleaning restrooms, dusting, mopping, and restocking supplies, with responsibilities for equipment maintenance and safety practices.

PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.

Responsibilities

• Performs general, routine custodial duties, to include dusting, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning restrooms, and restocking paper and soap supplies.
• Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies.
• Empties trash receptacles, disposes trash into compactors and/or dumpsters, and bags trash for proper disposal.
• Unlocks doors, ensuring doors are locked after cleaning areas.
• Reports needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels.
• Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
• Assists in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
• Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
• May provide vendors with access to areas for cleaning and may answer basic questions. May report issues with vendors to supervisor.
• May assist or perform snow removal activities and minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs, adjusting furniture, or other similar activities.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

The position requires shift work, may work on-call, overtime and weekends as required. The position requires physical activity and exposure to indoor and outdoor elements including hazardous material.

Conditions of Employment

• Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
• If this position is assigned to the Athletics Department, either administratively or functionally, compliance with all NCAA rules and regulations is required.
• Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
• Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
• All regular, non-temporary positions assigned to this classification are represented by a labor union and subject to the terms and conditions of the CWA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Minimum Qualifications

Less than high school; no previous experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• Demonstrated ability to read, understand, enforce and follow safety procedures
• One or two years custodial work experience
• Valid NM driver's license with ability to operate University vehicles and equipment as necessary
