Job description

Job Title: Custodian

Under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, the Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining city facilities to meet or exceed established standards and efficiency.

The Custodian will perform cleaning duties at various parks and facility sites throughout the City, work as a person-on-duty during facility rentals, and be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs. Other duties include working holidays and weekends as assigned.

Availability required: Monday-Friday between 8:00 am and 3:00 pm, and some Saturdays between 12:00 pm and 12:00 am.

Essential Tasks:

1. Remove and replace broken glass in windows, doors, display cases, skylights; caulk, point, and seal; cut glass to fit.
2. Inspect, install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems, fixtures, and equipment such as toilets, sprinkler systems, drinking fountains, dishwashers, boilers, drains, and septic systems.
3. Replace and rewire switches, circuits, lights, alarm, and bell systems.
4. Set and adjust clock systems.
5. Maintain tools for safe and efficient use by maintenance staff.
6. Inspect, maintain, and repair locks.
7. Use paint, varnish, shellac, stain, and other coatings on interior and exterior surfaces, including walls, roofs, floors, fences, furniture, and equipment.
8. Clean walls, floors, restrooms, and empty trash.
9. Set up and take down furniture.
10. Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and a log of repairs.
11. Perform other related duties as required.

• Methods, equipment, tools, and materials used in maintenance work.

• Perform heavy labor and skilled trades work.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, with desirable qualifications of 2 years of custodial or handyman experience. Applicants must be at least 18 years old, possess a valid California driver's license with current insurance, and have a clean driving record.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered qualifying.
