Position Description

Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Custodian to join our Facilities team. In this role, you'll be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment across research buildings, residential housing, and guest accommodations. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to the daily operations of a world-class scientific community within a supportive, team-oriented environment. Your work will directly support the comfort and well-being of staff, researchers, and visitors.

Position Responsibilities

1. Perform light and heavy cleaning duties across various areas of the Laboratory.
2. Support Laboratory events by providing porter services and assisting with moving furniture and equipment.
3. Clean office and laboratory spaces, conference rooms, restrooms, and other work areas.
4. Maintain cleanliness in restrooms and kitchenettes.
5. Perform floor cleaning, carpet maintenance, and upholstery cleaning.
6. Dust and polish furniture, window blinds, and other surfaces.
7. Handle regulated medical waste collection and disposal procedures.
8. Follow safety procedures when using chemical cleaners and power equipment.
9. Keep storage areas well-stocked, clean, and organized.
10. Notify supervisors of any repair needs.

Position Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience in a custodial role.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
• Ability to work on ladders and step stools.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Basic cleaning techniques and attention to detail.
