Job summary

The College of Southern Nevada (CSN) Custodial Services is seeking a Custodial Worker II for the North Las Vegas campus. Under supervision, you will perform cleaning, sanitizing, and basic maintenance tasks to ensure a clean, safe environment for students and staff.

Typical duties include cleaning offices and restrooms, operating cleaning equipment, and assisting with setup for events. Requires high school diploma or equivalent and prior custodial experience.

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of custodial or janitorial experience; OR six months general work plus one year custodial/janitorial experience; OR six months as Custodial Worker I in Nevada State service; OR equivalent combination.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general cleaning services to provide a safe, hygienic environment.
  • Clean and sanitize offices, restrooms, classrooms and other facilities according to schedules.
  • Dust, mop, vacuum, wash windows, and maintain floors and fixtures.
  • Operate cleaning equipment and observe safety precautions; attend training sessions.

CSN Custodial Services is seeking to a Custodial Worker II position located at North Las Vegas campus.

Job Description

Under direct supervision, responsibilities include, but are notlimited to:

  • Custodial Workers perform general cleaning services to Statefacilities using various cleaning equipment and materials toprovide a safe, hygienic and orderly work environment for allusers.
  • Clean and/or sanitize offices, restrooms, showers, bathtubs, laundry rooms, classrooms and other facilities or assigned areasaccording to prescribed schedules, methods and procedures.
  • Dust, mop and apply finish to various types of floors; vacuumand shampoo various types of carpets; wash windows, doors, mirrors,walls, woodwork and fixtures; clean and sanitize restrooms; polishfurniture; clean stairwells and elevators; and empty wastereceptacles.
  • Operate various types of powered equipment such as electricstrippers, buffers, burnishers, power washers and vacuums; utilizea wide range of cleaning agents and materials; and observeappropriate safety precautions in the handling and application ofproducts and materials; and attend in-service and training sessionsas required.
  • Provide security to State buildings by ensuring that windows,doors and/or access ways are properly secured when and whereappropriate; lock doors, windows and gates; arm security systems;and report security deficiencies.
  • Replace light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, vacuum belts and bags;report broken and malfunctioning equipment to supervisor andrequest cleaning supplies as needed.
  • Move and help transport furniture to different locations; setup rooms in a timely manner for meetings and special events.
  • Maintain required logs of work completed, inventory andsupplies used; complete required forms and prepare routine reportsas needed.
  • Perform minor repairs to leaking faucets, plugged drains orfaulty toilets; repair and service custodial equipment such asbuffers and vacuum cleaners; perform touch-up to existing paint;may remove snow from walkways, driveways or parking lots; andensure security systems are functioning properly and reportsecurity deficiencies. Incumbents may be designated as lead personsor night shift supervisors for the purposes of work assignment;train and review completed tasks performed by subordinate custodialworkers; and keep an inventory of equipment and suppliesneeded.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year ofcustodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial,hospital, governmental or similar environment; OR six monthsof general work experience and one year of custodial or janitorialexperience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental orsimilar environment; OR six months of experience as aCustodial Worker I in Nevada State service OR an equivalentcombination of education and experience as described above.

Weekly Schedule

Monday - Friday: 4:00 pm - 12:30 am

Starting Salary

CBA Grade 23, Step 1 $41,384.16

Per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170), salaries for initialappointments for classified positions typically begin at Step1.
