Job summary

CSN is seeking a qualified Custodian to perform general cleaning across state facilities using standard equipment and materials, ensuring offices, restrooms, classrooms, and common areas are sanitary. You will operate powered custodial equipment, apply cleaning agents safely, and maintain logs and inventories.

The role may evolve into leading a small team or night-shift supervision, requiring reliability and the ability to train others while adhering to safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent education and one year of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental or similar environment

Responsibilities

  • Perform general cleaning services to State facilities using cleaning equipment and materials
  • Clean and sanitize offices, restrooms, showers, bathtubs, laundry rooms, classrooms, and assigned areas
  • Dust, mop, apply floor finishes, vacuum and shampoo carpets, wash windows and surfaces, polish furniture, clean stairwells and elevators, and empty waste receptacles
  • Operate powered custodial equipment and use cleaning agents while observing safety precautions
  • Attend required in-service and training sessions
  • Secure State buildings by locking doors, windows, and gates, arming security systems, and reporting deficiencies
  • Replace light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, vacuum belts, and bags
  • Report malfunctioning equipment and request cleaning supplies
  • Move and transport furniture and set up rooms for meetings and special events
  • Maintain work logs, inventory, supply records, forms, and routine reports
  • Perform minor repairs to faucets, drains, toilets, custodial equipment, and existing paint
  • Remove snow from walkways, driveways, or parking lots when required
  • Potentially serve as lead person or night shift supervisor, train and review subordinate custodial workers, and maintain equipment and supply inventories

Job description

Requirements
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental or similar environment; OR
  • Six months of general work experience and one year of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental or similar environment; OR
  • Six months of experience as a Custodial Worker I in Nevada State service; OR
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience as described above
  • Ability to operate powered custodial equipment, including electric strippers, buffers, burnishers, power washers, and vacuums
  • Ability to safely handle and apply cleaning agents and materials
  • Required resume and cover letter

  • Must be a U.S. citizen or an alien authorized to work in the U.S.; CSN does not sponsor aliens for applicable positions
