Plans and directs the work of custodial staff to ensure thatestablished standards are met on a daily basis. Establishes workschedules, routine procedures, and training requirements for staff.Performs specialized custodial services, such as maintenance andrepair of custodial equipment, floor cleaning and finishingequipment, carpet and upholstery maintenance equipment inuniversity buildings as needed in absence of custodial staff.Responsible for ordering needed supplies and equipment for specificbuildings and/or zones.
Ensures that custodial services meet the needs of the department,the University, and established custodial guidelines by schedulingwork activities and adjusting workloads to account for scheduledand unscheduled absences, changing priorities, and specialcustodial projects. Performs daily and specialized custodial dutiesas needed in support of the departmental mission. Providescontinuity of custodial services under emergency conditions orunique circumstances by performing custodial duties directlyrelated to the emergency conditions or as the situation dictates.Inspects completed work; directs any rework or modification.Conducts periodic inspections of University buildings andfacilities to determine custodial needs. Supervises various staffactions including, but not limited to, hiring, performanceappraisals, promotions, transfers and vacation schedules. Shovelsand removes snow and ice from designated areas such as roofs,sidewalks and entryways as required.
Ability to position self to clean designated areas, equipment anditems. This includes but is not limited to the ability to clean inconfined, elevated, and loud noise spaces. Ability to use tools,equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includesdexterity in instrument manipulation. Ability to move, transport,and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment. Ability to inspectwork, materials, equipment, and/or supplies and identify anyerrors, needs, and/or determining factors. Ability to remain in astationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other officeequipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers,and calculators. Ability to drive state vehicle. Ability to removesnow and ice from designated areas. Ability to ascend and descendladders and/or stairs.
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/orup to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds offorce to constantly move objects.
