Hire Type: Full Time

Pay: Starting at $16.49 plus $.60 per hour shiftdifferential and commensurate with experience

Work Schedule: 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm Monday - Friday; work isperformed on-site and in person.

Job Summary

Performs specialized custodial services, such as maintenance andrepair of custodial equipment, floor cleaning and finishingequipment, carpet and upholstery maintenance equipment inUniversity buildings. Acts as a liaison between custodial staff andleadership to ensure service excellence.

Essential Functions

Maintains and performs minor repairs on custodial equipment, suchas vacuums, floor and carpet cleaners, etc. Completes basicmaintenance on floor care equipment. Performs specialized custodialservices such as floor cleaning and finishing, carpet andupholstery maintenance, cleaning building furnishings and/orprocedures using specialty cleaning chemicals. Cleans and servicesassigned areas in University buildings and maintains sufficientstock and supplies for the proper performance of these duties.Provides all floor care services including strip, wax, carpetcleaning and may provide disaster recovery for affected flooring.Utilizes cleaning machinery such as scrubbers, buffers, and carpetextractors for floor care maintenance. Performs regular inspectionsof all areas to determine need for services and/or quality ofservices performed. Communicates findings and recommendations toleadership. Provides guidance and coaching to custodial staff asneeded. Conducts service recovery efforts in response to questionsand/or concerns from faculty, staff, students, and visitorsaccording to the department's customer service protocols. Assistssupervisor with payroll, scheduling, education of department staff,budget and other duties as assigned. Shovels and removes snow andice from designated areas such as roofs, sidewalks and entryways asrequired.

Required Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience in custodial work
Required License/Certifications/Training
  • Valid Driver's License
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods and practices used inhousekeeping operations and operation, use care of vacuum cleaners,scrubbing machines, floor machines and other janitorial equipment;and the use of safe principles and safe techniques forSupervision.
  • Familiarity with the principles of inventory control:sanitation and all practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work and supervise effectively with fellow workersand others
  • Ability to keep and maintain records.
  • Ability to maintain and organize filing and record keepingsystems, confidential information.
  • Ability to supervise multiple custodial work units and variousprojects, work orders, and personnel.
Physical Requirements

Ability to position self to clean designated areas, equipment anditems. This includes but is not limited to the ability to clean inconfined, elevated, and loud noise spaces. Ability to use tools,equipment, and technology necessary to do the job. This includesdexterity in instrument manipulation. Ability to move, transport,and/or deliver items, supplies, or equipment. Ability to inspectwork, materials, equipment, and/or supplies and identify anyerrors, needs, and/or determining factors. Ability to remain in astationary position. Ability to operate a computer and other officeequipment including but not limited to phone, printers, copiers,and calculators. Ability to drive state vehicle. Ability to removesnow and ice from designated areas. Ability to ascend and descendladders and/or stairs.

Additional Physical Requirement

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally and/orup to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force to constantly move objects.
