Job summary

The University of Wisconsin–Madison is seeking a Custodian Lead for Wisconsin Union facilities. The role leads a custodial team, assists in training, inspects progress and quality, and performs routine cleaning, trash removal, and basic maintenance. Shifts run 3rd shift, with location at Union South or Memorial Union in Madison, WI.

The position may include outdoor work and on-call duties. Compensation starts at $18.91 per hour, with additional premiums for night hours, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Ability to walk, stand, lift, carry, bend, stoop and climb for the majority of the shift.
• Ability to lift and move supplies, equipment and material regularly up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to remove snow and ice outside during cold weather.
• Experience in custodial work and willingness to train new staff preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues.
• Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment; documents inventory and requests supplies.
• Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs.
• Maintains walkways clear of debris, snow and ice.
• Schedules and assists with staff training and coordination.
• Operates basic cleaning equipment and handles waste and recyclables.
• Responds to facility emergencies per policies and procedures.
