Responsibilities

  • Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities.
  • Keeps supply areas organized, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed.
  • Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs.
  • Uses basic cleaning equipment to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste.
  • Maintains walkways free of debris, snow, and ice.

Job Duties

Custodians at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh performindividual and/or group custodial duties in academic andadministrative buildings, residence halls and dining services,operate and maintain power equipment to include, but not limitedto: vacuums (upright, backpack, tank, wet/dry, portable),shampooers (upholstery, extraction, bonneting), floor scrubbers,floor buffers, pressure washers, snow blowers and variousaccessories for the above machines, and are exposed to a variety ofcleaning solutions and chemicals, and may come in contact withblood-borne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials.Training is provided in department standards, the proper cleaningmethods, equipment operation and the use of safety procedures andprotective equipment. Duties include, but are not limited to,cleaning of bathrooms and showers, lobbies, entrances, elevators,lodging rooms, classrooms, offices, hallways, stairwells, landings,pool area, gyms, handball courts, weight rooms, locker rooms,meeting rooms, pre-function areas, etc.

UWO is now offering sign‑on bonuses for new Custodial and Grounds employees! Recruitment Bonus of $1,000 ($500 for part‑time) will beawarded after successful completion of 180‑day Probation Period (6month)! Retention Bonus of $1,000 ($500 for part‑time) will beawarded after successful completion of 1-year EmploymentAnniversary!

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Ability to understand and utilize safety regulations to performwork in a safe manner at all times, utilizing safety and personalprotective equipment
  • Ability to read/understand chemical labels/signs and/orpictures
  • Must pass a pre-work screen to ensure the ability to performessential physical functions of the position with or withoutaccommodations
  • Some assignments require the ability to obtain a WI Driver’sLicense and authorization to drive a University vehicle uponhire
  • Employees are expected to be flexible in the performance oftheir job functions and to communicate respectfully with students,co-workers, supervisors and other University staff,may be asked towork hours in excess of the normal shift and after-hours call-ins,including occasional weekend and holiday hours
