Job description

Position Overview

Custodian (1st shift) at the University of Wisconsin–Green Bay. The role supports student success and community engagement by maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming campus spaces. Work involves cleaning offices, classrooms, restrooms, floors, and furnishings; washing windows and surfaces; supporting waste, recycling, and supply management; assisting with furniture and equipment moves; and contributing to seasonal snow and ice removal. The position reports to the Custodial Services Supervisor and may travel between campus locations as needed.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
  • Maintains clean and clear walkways free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
  • Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables
  • Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
  • Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed

Compensation

Hourly wage of $17.00. This position earns an additional $0.80 per hour for all weekend hours worked, as well as for all hours worked between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. This position is not exempt from the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent at time of application
  • Possession of or eligibility to obtain a valid driver's license upon appointment
  • Basic computer skills including the ability to use e-mail and internet
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual, preferably in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or Oneida
  • Knowledge of the proper methods, materials, and equipment for a wide range of general custodian work
  • Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as a vacuum cleaner or a floor scrubber
  • Knowledge of basic safety precautions including the safe and proper use of toxic chemicals, and knowledge of heavy lifting methods to ensure safety
  • Must have the ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness
  • Ability to tolerate temperature extremes when performing snow removal activities
Physical Qualifications
  • Physical abilities to lift 50 lbs. from the floor to waist occasionally
  • Physical abilities to lift 30 lbs. from the floor to overhead occasionally
  • Physical abilities to stand and walk continuously throughout an eight hour shift
  • Ability to push, pull, reach, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, move furniture, perform repetitive motions, overhead work, frequent stair and ladder climbing
Conditions Of Appointment

Position is a full-time University Staff appointment. The work hours are 6:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday on the Green Bay campus. A criminal conviction investigation and pre-work screen examination will be conducted on the finalist(s). A six-month probationary period is required. In compliance with the Wisconsin Fair Employment Act, the University does not discriminate on the basis of arrest or conviction record.
