Job description

The Connections & Hospitality Coordinator at Custer Road United Methodist Church shall be a person of genuine and deepening Christian character, willing to grow as a loyal participant of a ministry team, able to work and communicate well and cultivate trust with other people in a growing congregation.

Purpose: The purpose of the Connections & Hospitality Coordinator is to create a welcoming environment where guests and church members feel seen, valued, and connected. Through Sunday morning leadership, volunteer coordination, and guest follow-up, this role supports meaningful first impressions and helps people take their next steps in the life of the church.

Hours: The Connections & Hospitality Coordinator position is a part-time non-exempt position and is governed by Custer Road UMC's Employee Handbook. This expected time commitment is 10 to 15 hours per week, which will include Sunday mornings and occasional evenings, holidays and special events. Compensation will be commensurate with experience.

Staff Supervision: Reports to Associate Minister - Connections & Membership.

Responsibilities: In conformity with Custer Road's policies and procedures as well as those contained in the United Methodist Book of Discipline, the position responsibilities will include those generally described below, but may not be limited to the following:

Hospitality and Sunday Morning Support:

  • Foster a warm, welcoming environment for guests and church members.
  • Be present on Sunday mornings for all services to greet guests, answer questions, and address hospitality needs.
  • Oversee Sunday hospitality operations, ensuring volunteers are prepared, equipped, and serving in assigned areas.
  • Ensure hospitality and connection spaces are organized, stocked, and guest-ready before services.
  • Respond to volunteer absences, guest needs, and unexpected situations during Sunday activities.
  • Identify and remove barriers that may hinder a guest's experience or connection.

Connect Team Coordination:

  • Recruit, schedule, train, and communicate with Connect Team volunteers for Sunday services, special events, and meetings.
  • Equip volunteers with the information and resources needed to serve confidently.
  • Maintain volunteer scheduling software and assist in filling open serving opportunities.
  • Encourage and appreciate volunteers through regular communication and support.
  • Keep the Connection Point organized, welcoming, and fully stocked with current guest resources, signage, name tags, and ministry information.

Guest Team Follow-Up:

  • Coordinate timely, welcoming follow-up with first-time guests.
  • Maintain accurate guest records and track next steps.
  • Connect guests with ministries, groups, classes, and serving opportunities by coordinating with clergy and ministry leaders.
  • Ensure smooth handoffs when guests express interest in specific areas of church life.
  • Handle guest information with discretion and confidentiality.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Must demonstrate a growing Christian faith and be able to support the mission and values of Custer Road UMC.
  • Be warm, energetic, approachable, and service-oriented with a heart for hospitality.
  • Have strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Have a proven ability to recruit, organize, and encourage volunteers.
  • Is able to anticipate needs, solve problems, and remain calm in a fast-paced environment.
  • Be proficient with scheduling, email, database, and church management software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move throughout the church campus and remain active for extended periods.
  • Ability to set up hospitality areas and move supplies and materials.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
