Job summary

OpenAI, Inc. is seeking a Community Communications Lead to bring OpenAI’s products closer to communities and broaden the audience for our stories.

Based on the Product & Research Communications team, you will shape narratives, develop earned media opportunities, and amplify community-driven stories across channels. The role involves collaboration with Culture & Community teams, crafting campaigns from inception, and building relationships with journalists and creators.

Qualifications

• Experience leading communications for consumer brands, cultural campaigns, creator initiatives, or community programs.
• Strong cultural instincts and relationships beyond technology media.
• Excellent writer and editor who finds larger stories across moments.
• Ideas early with clear point of view; respect others' decision-making.
• Work with community members and creators to keep stories authentic.
• Think beyond announcements; develop narratives over months.
• Combine creative ambition with organization to manage multiple programs.
• Build trusted relationships across communications, community, marketing, product, and regional teams.
• Curious about AI and its possibilities and limitations.

Responsibilities

• Be in the room shaping the narrative and develop the story, cultural angle and earned comms opportunities from the beginning.
• Think beyond a campaign to connect beats into one overarching narrative for Culture & Community Engagement.
• Help AI move from subculture into mass culture with relationships to reach diverse audiences.
• Find stories inside communities and surface compelling builders and creators.
• Make participation part of the story by inviting people to create, learn and do together.
• Sustain an ongoing narrative across creator campaigns, community programs and partnerships.
• Develop pitches, features, spokesperson opportunities, and channel content connecting stories to a larger narrative.
• Connect work globally with regional comms and territory leads for local relevance.
• Incorporate community feedback into product communications planning.
