Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Community Communications Lead to bring our products closer to communities, shaping narratives and amplifying community-driven stories across organic channels. You’ll work with the Product & Research Communications team and the Culture & Community Engagement team to craft campaigns that strengthen cultural relevance and participation.

You’ll influence from the outset, connect campaigns into a broader, longer-term narrative, and build trusted journalist and creator

Qualifications

• Experience leading communications for consumer brands, cultural campaigns, creator initiatives, or community programs.
• Strong cultural instincts and relationships beyond technology media.
• Excellent writer and editor who can find the larger story across several moments without losing details.
• Able to influence direction while respecting others’ decision-making responsibilities.
• Capable of working with community members and creators to keep stories authentic.
• Think beyond announcements and build narratives over months.
• Organizational skills to manage multiple programs and adapt to changing priorities.
• Build trusted relationships across communications, community, marketing, product, and regional teams.
• Curious about AI and able to communicate both possibilities and limitations accurately.

Responsibilities

• Shape the narrative from the start of campaigns and community programs; develop the story, cultural angle, and earned comms.
• Connect multiple campaigns into one overarching narrative for the Culture & Community Engagement team.
• Build relationships with journalists, creators, and cultural voices to reach audiences.
• Surface compelling builders, small businesses, students, and others making tools their own.
• Make participation part of the story and invite wider community engagement.
• Maintain an ongoing narrative across creator campaigns, community programs, and partnerships.
• Develop pitches, features, spokesperson opportunities, and channel content.
• Collaborate with regional teams to ensure locally relevant voices and angles.
