Job summary

Fallingwater Café, operated by Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, seeks a part-time Culinary Team Member to assist with food prep, production, and service for daily operations and special events. The position opens and closes the kitchen, maintains cleanliness, and adheres to safety standards.

Reporting to the Executive Chef, the role requires early mornings, weekends, and holiday availability, as well as experience in a restaurant kitchen and knowledge of food safety practices.

  • Culinary school degree or professional training preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations preferred.

  • Ability to perform physical requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation and cooking for daily Fallingwater Café and events.
  • Open and close the kitchen; complete end-of-shift duties.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper food storage; follow safety guidelines.
  • Support service with timely food preparation and coordination with FOH.
  • Assist with receiving, rotating, and storing products.
  • Support cost containment and sustainability efforts.

Job description

Fallingwater, a property entrusted to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy,designatedas a National HistoricLandmarkand inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is seekingapart-timeCulinaryTeam Memberfor theFallingwaterCafe’.

Reporting to the Executive Chef,theCulinary Team Memberassiststhe Executive Chef and Sous Chef with food preparation and delivery for the Fallingwater Café andspecial events, asrequired. This positionis responsible foropening and closing the kitchen, daily prep tasks,maintainingcleanliness, andto supportservice through consistent execution and adherence to food safety standards.

Job Duties
  • Assists with preparation and cooking of food items for daily Fallingwater Café menu, group dining, specialty tours, and events.
  • Assists with increased production needs during high-volume days or special events.
  • Collaborates with front of house staff as needed to support smooth service.
  • Completes daily prep tasks including portioning, labeling, and proper storage.
  • Prepares food items following pre-established standards and recipes, and adheres to production schedules and portioning guidelines, always maintaining consistency.
  • Opens and closes the kitchen according to established procedures. Completes end of shift cleaning duties of designated kitchen areas.
  • Assists with receiving, rotating, and storing products using proper inventory practices.
  • Properly stores or packages food and grab and go items, and coordinates the timely transfer of goods to the Fallingwater Café.
  • Follows all food safety, sanitation, and temperature control guidelines.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and food-safe cooking workspace throughout the shift, complying with food service government regulations, as directed by supervisor.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of all kitchen areas, equipment, and dish stations.
  • Monitors and communicates kitchen inventory needs, prep levels, and production notes to supervisors.
  • Works closely with Executive Chef and Sous Chef on special events, assisting with food preparation, set up, and clean-up.
  • Supports the Conservancy’s cost containment and sustainability efforts, as applicable.
  • Always provides excellent customer service and exhibits professionalism around guests in the Fallingwater Café as well as in special event settings.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as needed.

  • Must be able to stand up to 8 hours.
  • Must be able to bend, move, andlift upto 40lbs.
  • Ability to work with dangerousequipment;including knives, slicers, and ovens.
  • Frequent bending and stooping.
  • Work in a hot environment,sometimes withwith/near open flame.
Qualifications
  • Prior food service experience in a restaurant kitchen and some knowledge of food preparationrequired.
  • Strong time management, attention todetailand consistency standards.
  • Culinary school degree, professional training, or on-the-job training experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of food safety, storage, sanitation practices, and government regulations preferred.
  • Knowledge of attractive food plating and display preferred.
  • Must be able to workearlymornings, weekends, evenings, and holidays and be flexible with schedule and hours.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, time management, and the ability to work efficiently in a structured environment required.
  • To be able to complete all physical requirements of the job with or withouta reasonableaccommodation.

This is a part-time hourly, seasonal position.

Pay

$17.60 per hour
