Job summary

Behavioral Health Network, Inc. (BHN) is seeking a Culinary Line Cook to support SUD programs in Western Massachusetts. Prepare meals per approved menus, maintain quality and safety, and assist with prep, service, and cleanup in a client-centered kitchen.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED, ServSafe certification, and weekend availability. A valid driver’s license and sobriety are preferred, reflecting BHN’s mission-driven, supportive team environment.

  • Experience cooking in a program setting preferred.
  • Weekend availability required.
  • Valid driver’s license and vehicle during work hours required.
  • Commitment to client empowerment and community integration.
  • Good verbal and written communication; basic computer skills.
  • Two years of sobriety preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food according to approved menus, recipes, and portion standards.
  • Maintain food quality, temperature, and presentation; assist with meal service.
  • Perform dishwashing and maintain cleanliness of kitchen areas.
  • Follow food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards including logs.
  • Maintain organized workstations and comply with inspections.
  • Assist with prep, cooking, service, storage, labeling, and inventory rotation.
  • Receive deliveries and participate in daily cleaning and closing procedures.
  • Communicate promptly about schedule issues to ensure coverage.
  • Follow directions from Kitchen Lead and Regional Supervisor; support teamwork.
  • Prepare meals respecting dietary accommodations and client dignity.

What You Will Do:
  • Prepare food according to approved menus, recipes, and portion standards, supporting timely production and service of all scheduled meals
  • Maintain food quality, temperature, and presentation, and assist with meal setup, service, and breakdown
  • Perform dishwashing and maintain cleanliness of kitchen equipment and work areas
  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and hygiene standards, completing required temperature logs and cleaning checklists
  • Maintain clean, organized workstations and comply with inspection and regulatory requirements
  • Assist with prep, cooking, and service as directed, and support proper storage, labeling, and inventory rotation
  • Receive and put away deliveries as assigned, and participate in daily cleaning and closing procedures
  • Report to work as scheduled and on time, communicating callouts or schedule issues promptly
  • Follow direction from the Kitchen Lead and Regional Supervisor when present, contributing to a respectful, team-oriented work environment
  • Prepare meals that support client dignity, recovery, and treatment goals, respecting dietary accommodations and special meal requirements
  • Maintain a professional presence in client-facing areas
Who You Are:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • ServSafe certification required
  • Food preparation experience in a program setting preferred
  • Two years of sobriety preferred
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle available for use during all working hours required
  • Committed to client empowerment and growth, human rights, and community integration
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with internet, word processing, and email systems
  • Weekend availability required
