Qualifications

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma.
  • Active industry certification or credential relevant to the CTE program or subject area being taught.
  • Relevant industry work experience in the career or technical field associated with the teaching assignment.
  • Meet all applicable Tennessee Department of Education requirements for serving as a CTE teacher, including any required licensure, industry certification, work experience, or credentialing requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in the assigned career or technical field.
  • Ability to develop and deliver instruction that incorporates hands‑on, career‑focused learning experiences.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, industry partners, and administrators.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school personnel and community/business partners to support student career readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Provide instruction in the assigned CTE program, incorporating academic, technical, and career‑related knowledge and skills.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans, instructional materials, projects, assessments, and hands‑on learning activities aligned with state standards and CTE program requirements.
  • Provide students with meaningful opportunities to apply technical knowledge and skills through laboratory, project‑based, and work‑based learning experiences, as appropriate.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and productive classroom and laboratory environment.
  • Teach and reinforce appropriate safety procedures, equipment operation, and industry standards related to the assigned CTE program.
  • Modify instruction, assignments, projects, and learning materials as needed to meet the individual needs and learning levels of students.
  • Monitor, assess, and document student progress and maintain accurate records and grades.
  • Prepare students for industry‑recognized credentials, certifications, examinations, competitions, internships, work‑based learning opportunities, and/or postsecondary education, as applicable to the program.
  • Incorporate current industry practices, technology, equipment, and standards into classroom instruction.
  • Maintain and demonstrate current knowledge of developments, trends, technology, and practices within the assigned career field.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, parents and legal guardians to communicate student progress, performance, and career opportunities.
  • Collaborate with other teachers, administrators, special education personnel, teacher assistants, counselors, and support staff to provide appropriate individualized support for students.
  • Collaborate with local businesses, industry partners, postsecondary institutions, workforce organizations, and community agencies to strengthen CTE opportunities and support student career readiness.
  • Participate in professional development and maintain required industry certifications and/or credentials.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory, equipment, tools, supplies, and instructional materials associated with the CTE program.
  • Ensure that students follow all applicable safety procedures and school policies while participating in classroom, laboratory, shop, and work‑based activities.
  • Ensure that students have opportunities to develop employability skills, including communication, teamwork, problem‑solving, professionalism, and workplace readiness.
  • Support the goals and objectives of the school and district and comply with applicable Board policies and state and federal requirements.
