Job summary

The News Literacy Project is seeking a Chief Technology Officer to lead technology and product functions as NLP scales its Checkology platform nationwide. This full-time, virtual role reports to the President and CEO and shapes the technology foundation for a national movement in news literacy education.

You will steer strategy, governance, and security, guide product and engineering teams, and partner with executive leadership to deliver measurable impact for districts and students.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 10–12 years of experience with 7–10 years in technology leadership.
• Experience leading strategy for school districts, SaaS/EdTech contexts preferred.
• Proven track record delivering customer-centered digital products and governance.

Responsibilities

• Develop multi-year technology strategy aligned with program priorities.
• Establish governance, budgets, and roadmaps for product and enterprise systems.
• Advise CEO and Board on technology opportunities and risks.
• Chair AI Committee and guide AI enablement and policies.
• Ensure data strategy alignment and data governance across functions.
• Oversee Product leadership and align architecture with roadmap.
• Lead cybersecurity, privacy, and district compliance programs.
• Manage vendor relationships and ROI for tech investments.
• Direct technology operations, architecture, and platform reliability.
