Job summary

TAG Software Group seeks a CTO for a UK software business to lead the rebuild of a mission-critical on-prem estate into a leading cloud platform. You will supervise a large team and personally contribute in a small elite squad, reviewing architecture and guiding major incidents.

You will own product engineering, QA, DevOps, cloud, data, and infrastructure, balancing hands-on work with strategic leadership.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software engineering, including 4+ years leading teams.
• Still hands-on enough to work inside a small, elite squad.
• Personally led migration of paying customers from on premises to multi-tenant SaaS.
• Strong Microsoft stack: C#/NET, SQL Server, Azure; assess legacy C++ and .NET Framework code.
• Using AI development tools daily; maximize impact for delivery.
• Track record of hard calls: restructuring teams, stopping failing projects, steering R&D to P&L.
• Explains technical trade-offs with commercial rationale.

Responsibilities

• Run and stabilize the current on-premises estate with 20+ engineers and staff.
• Lead the move from on premises to cloud, including data migration and NHS integrations.
• Build a next-generation cloud platform with an AI-native engineering squad.
• Define architecture, write/review code when needed, set engineering standards.
