Job summary

North Slope Borough School District seeks a CTE Instructor to guide students in acquiring basic skills aligned with district guidelines and industry standards. The role emphasizes individualized instruction, culturally safe practices, and ongoing assessment, with a focus on career pathways for youth and collaboration with community partners.

The position is non-benefitted and grant funded, with continuation dependent on funds and district priorities.

Qualifications

• Alaska Teaching certificate with an endorsement in a CTE field preferred.
• Minimum Alaska Type M certification in CTE or ability to obtain within timeframe.
• Knowledge & experience with culturally safe and responsive practices preferred.
• Knowledge & experience in trauma engaged practices preferred.
• Positive school climate and restorative practices preferred.
• Inupiaq, Language, History & Culture experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Consult with the Qatqi..iaġvik CTE Director and Manager in program development.
• Creates an authentic, consistent, strength-based culturally safe and responsive instructional environment.
• Develops program plans through collaboration with staff, students, families and community.
• Encourage and support a Grow Your Own career path for middle and high school students.
• Build and maintain relationships with North Slope entities to grow a Qatqi..iaġvik and CTE program.
• Promote and support School District Goals as defined in the Strategic Plan.
• Participate in educational committees and organizations for district benefit.
• Abide by ethics and professional teaching standards.
• Provide instruction in safety, particularly with tools, machines and hazardous materials.
• Stay current in CTE practices and advancements.
• Adhere to District policies and perform other tasks as assigned.
