Job summary

Jefferson Lab in Newport News, Virginia seeks a Rotating Machinery Technician to support the cryogenic group, maintain helium refrigeration plants, and assist senior technicians with daily operations. You will start/stop machinery, monitor systems, open/close valves, handle gas deliveries, and respond to after-hours emergencies.

A high school diploma or GED is required, with 2+ years of relevant experience preferred and machining/alignment tools beneficial.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant experience in rotating machinery or related field.
• Experience in machinery repair and preventative maintenance.
• Familiarity with machinery alignment tools and machining is a plus.
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Ability to read system drawings and machinery manuals.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, rebuild, and operate rotating and reciprocating machines (helium compressors, turbines, pumps).
• Involved in daily operations of large helium refrigeration plants.
• Start/stop machinery, monitor systems, open/close valves, and receive gas deliveries.
• On-call and respond to after-hours operational emergencies.
