Job summary

HRL Laboratories is seeking an Interposer System Design Analyst & Integration Engineer to model and validate the thermal and mechanical behavior of superconducting interposers across cryogenic temperatures. You will develop CAD-based models, perform FEM simulations, and work with cross-functional teams to ensure design integrity from millikelvin to 4 K.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in EE, ME, physics, or related field with 5+ years of relevant experience.
• Expertise in thermal and mechanical FEM modeling tools and complex simulations.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical or thermal test methods and low-temperature measurements.
• Familiar with CAD tools to construct detailed 3D models and simulation geometries.
• Experience with cryogenic materials and deep cryogenic simulations (mK-4 K).

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute detailed thermal and mechanical finite element models for interposers and packaging across cryogenic temperatures.
• Build CAD-based models; create mesh strategies, boundary conditions, and multi-physics simulations for deep cryo operation.
• Collaborate with teams to validate FEM predictions through measurements and characterize material responses.
• Analyze interposer materials (silicon, glass, metals) for stress, gradients and deformation at very low temperatures.
• Coordinate with process, packaging and device engineering to align design with cryogenic performance and manufacturing constraints.
• Document methodologies, models, assumptions, and validation results for design reviews.
• Communicate findings and risks to senior management and drive data-informed decisions.
• Support development of cryogenic reliability strategies and failure mode mitigation.
