Job summary

Blue Origin seeks a design engineer to own cryogenic and high‑pressure fluid subsystems from concept through detailed design and hand‑off to fabrication. You will draft and own P&IDs, perform flow and thermal modeling, and drive reviews and ECN migrations.

You’ll conduct field-oriented activities, build test plans, and coordinate across mechanical, electrical, controls, and operations to ensure safe, producible systems on site at Cape Canaveral and related facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Chemical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in fluid or mechanical system design, analysis, or release.
  • Demonstrated experience producing P&IDs and driving them through review and release.
  • Proficiency in at least one fluid network modeling or thermal analysis tool.
  • Working knowledge of fluid system components: valves, regulators, pumps, fittings, relief devices, filters.
  • Willingness to spend real time in the field: site walks, walkdowns, leak checks, integrated testing.
  • Strong communication: written, verbal, and the ability to communicate with technicians and vendors.

Responsibilities

  • Design and release cryogenic and high‑pressure fluid systems from concept through detailed design and hand‑off to fabrication.
  • Own P&IDs, review them, maintain configuration through ECNs, and reconcile against as‑built.
  • Build flow‑network and thermal models to size lines and predict transient behavior during fill, drain, chill‑down, and vent.
  • Perform pressure system calcs to ASME B31.3 and B31.12 and document work for continuity.
  • Walk down installed hardware; support leak checks, blowdowns, tests, and extract learnings for design improvements.
  • Coordinate across mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, and operations to keep systems buildable, operable, and safe.
  • Participate in PHA, HAZOP, and design reviews with data and point of view.
  • Support planning and execution of system‑level tests; analyze data and interpret results.
