Job summary

Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory seeks a Cryo-EM Specialist to support seven Thermo Fisher cryoEM instruments and two cryoET systems. You will train users, maintain equipment, perform specimen preparation, and collect and evaluate data, collaborating with the computing group for data storage and processing.

The role requires a Bachelor's in a related field with 2+ years of experience; Master’s or PhD is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related scientific field and 2+ years of experience.
• Strong understanding of cryoEM and TEM principles.
• Ability to work independently under deadlines and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Conduct cryoEM specimen preparation.
• Operate electron microscopes for cryo specimens.
• Screen cryo‑EM specimens for structural research suitability.
• Collect image data for users and assess data quality.
• Interface with computing team for data collection, storage, and processing.
• Maintain microscopes and related preparation apparatus; interfacial support with vendors.
• Assist researchers and train new staff, postdocs and students.
• Develop instructional materials and contribute to reports/publications.
