The City of Pico Rivera is seeking a Part-Time Crossing Guard to assist students safely across crosswalks during school hours. You’ll monitor traffic gaps, support pedestrian safety, and communicate with school staff and families in a courteous, vigilant manner.
Ideal candidates are 18+, with high school diploma preferred, bilingual in Spanish, and willing to work variable school-day hours. Training and uniform provided; position is non-benefited and up to 25 hours/week.

The Parks and Recreation Department oversees Parks and Programs, REACH, Senior Services, Contract Classes, Media and Communications, Special Events, Transportation, and the Pico Rivera Golf Course.
The amenities provided by the Parks and Recreation Department are enjoyed by thousands of people every year. The amenities include 100 acres of parks and open spaces, swimming pool, athletic fields, walking paths, Senior Center, and batting cages.
Under direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Crossing Guard/Substitute Crossing Guard may be assigned to posts throughout the City when schools are in session. Hours vary depending on post assignment. A Crossing Guard assists pedestrians to safely walk or bicycle to and from school when crossing public intersections. A Crossing Guard identifies gaps in traffic and leads children across the crosswalk. A Crossing Guard does not direct traffic.

The position requires sitting, standing, walking on level and slippery surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping, and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. The position also requires both near and far vision when inspecting work and operating assigned equipment. The need to lift, carry, and push tools, equipment, and supplies weighing 50 pounds or more is also required. Acute hearing is also required in providing customer service to public and/or assistance in facility, classroom, or outdoors. Will also be working in outdoor area and may be exposed to loud noises and extreme weather conditions.
Veteran's credit will amount to 10 points to be added to the interview score. Proof of honorable discharge must be submitted with the application materials in order to be eligible for veteran's credit. Veterans who wish to utilize this credit must have served on a full-time basis (not reserve or auxiliary) in the armed forces for a minimum of six months (180 days).
