Job summary

The City of South Bend is seeking a part-time Crossing Guard to help children cross streets near school locations. The role requires reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, and the ability to stand and signal pedestrians while traffic moves safely.

Work hours are one hour in the morning and one hour in the afternoon, Monday through Friday during the school year. The job emphasizes safety, courtesy, and cooperation with the Crossing Guard Supervisor and police staff.

Qualifications

• Must be able to deal effectively with children and general public.
• Must provide own transportation.
• Ability to walk and raise a ten (10) pound sign and light are necessary to perform duties.

Responsibilities

• Assists children in crossing streets at assigned locations.
• Drives to various locations as directed to control student crossings.
• Keeps a daily count of children crossing at corner/intersections; acts in a firm, but courteous and polite manner to children, as well as passing motorists.
• Reports any suspicious activity or disregard for crossing by motorists or passersby to Crossing Guard Supervisor.
• Coordinates work schedule with Crossing Guard Supervisor.
• Participates in required Police Department training.
