Job summary

Chippewa Valley Schools in Michigan seeks a Crossing Guard to help protect students during arrival and departure at Ojibwa. Schedule: 2 hours/day, 8:20am–9:20am and 3:20pm–4:20pm, at $15.44/hr. Replacing Mya Lee for the 26/27 School Year.

You will supervise students crossing streets and school grounds, stop traffic when necessary, and communicate clearly with students, staff, and the community while keeping information confidential.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Must attend yearly training by the Traffic Safety Association.
  • Experience working with children is preferred.

Position Summary

Supports the school district in protecting students by ensuring that children arrive and depart the school grounds and adjoining streets in a safe manner while maintaining confidentiality.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervises and monitors students as they cross streets and school grounds while walking to and from school.
  • Stops traffic when necessary.
  • Ensures that students comply with school rules and communicates with students to monitor behavior while crossing streets.
  • Maintains a safe flow of traffic on and off school grounds where students are present.
  • Must be on time at your job post.
  • Communicates with community, staff, and students to answer questions and disseminate or explain information.

Educational and Experience Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Required to attend and be trained yearly by the Traffic Safety Association.
  • Experience working with children preferred.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of school policies and safety regulations.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to apply common sense to carry out written, oral, or diagrammatic instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, and community.
  • Ability to read and interpret school policies and handbook.
  • Ability to write simple routine reports.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English for all essential duties.
Physical Demands

Regular use of hands, talk, and hearing. Requires standing, walking, reaching, and occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.

Work Environment

Moderate to loud noise level.

Title and Reporting

Crossing Guard – Grade 3 FLSA: Non-Exempt. Reports to: Principal.
