Job description

Position: Crossing Guard

Definition: Maintain control of children and vehicular traffic at crossing sites to ensure that children cross safely at designated sites.

Scope Of Duties:

1. Direct children at street intersections to ensure safe crossing.
2. Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report infractions to the police.
3. Observe vehicles and pedestrians near school crosswalks to report suspicious activity.
4. Notify authorities of uncooperative or abusive children.
5. Maintain regular and predictable attendance (aim for 2 excused absences per year).
6. Follow all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
7. Report unsafe conditions immediately to the field supervisor, or no later than the end of the shift.
8. Provide excellent customer service to promote a positive image and foster professionalism in the community.

Supervision: Reports to Andy Frain Services' Field Supervisor. Exercises no supervision.

Qualifications and Requirements:

1. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
2. Knowledge of the local geography and important landmarks.
3. Analytical observation skills and clear reporting abilities.
4. Calm reaction to emergency situations.
5. Good intelligence and emotional stability.
6. Tactful interaction skills, especially with children.
7. Minimum age of 18 years.
8. Physically capable of performing duties in all weather conditions.
9. Ability to read and interpret English documents and communicate effectively in English.
10. Must attend a mandatory School Crossing Guard class.

Tools and Equipment: Stop paddle, reflective vest, whistle, with optional items such as cell phone, rain gear, gloves, reflective cap, first aid kit, warm winter gear, and traffic cones.
