Definition

Maintain control of children and vehicular traffic at crossing sites to ensure that children cross safely at designated sites.

Scope Of Duties

• Direct actions of children at street intersections to ensure safe crossing.
• Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report infractions to the police.
• Observe vehicles and pedestrians near school crosswalks to report suspicious activity.
• Notify authorities of uncooperative or abusive children.
• Maintain regular and predictable attendance (aim for 2 excused absences per year).
• Follow all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Report unsafe conditions immediately to the supervisor, or by the end of the shift if possible.
• Provide excellent customer service to promote a positive image and foster pride and professionalism.

Supervision

Reports to Andy Frain Services' Field Supervisor. Exercises no supervision.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Knowledge of community geography and important landmarks.
• Ability to observe and report situations clearly and objectively.
• React quickly and calmly in emergencies.
• Good intelligence and emotional stability.
• Tactful interaction skills with the public, especially children.
• Minimum age of 18 years.
• Physically capable of performing duties in all weather conditions.
• Ability to read, interpret, and communicate safety instructions and reports in English.
• Must attend a mandatory School Crossing Guard training session.

Tools and Equipment Needed

• Stop Paddle, Reflective Vest, Whistle, optional items: cell phone, rain gear, reflective gloves, reflective cap, first aid kit, warm winter gear, traffic cones.
