Job description

Position: Crossing Guard

Definition: Maintain control of children and vehicular traffic at crossing sites to ensure that children cross safely at designated sites.

Scope Of Duties:

1. Direct children's actions at street intersections to ensure safe crossing.
2. Record license numbers of vehicles disregarding traffic signals and report infractions to the police.
3. Observe vehicles and pedestrians near school crosswalks to report suspicious activity.
4. Notify authorities of uncooperative or abusive children.
5. Maintain regular and predictable attendance, aiming for 2 excused absences per year.
6. Follow all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
7. Report unsafe conditions immediately to the supervisor, ideally during the shift or at shift end.
8. Provide exceptional customer service to promote a positive image and foster professionalism.

Supervision: Reports to the Field Supervisor; exercises no supervision.

Qualifications and Requirements:

1. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
2. Knowledge of local geography and important landmarks.
3. Analytical observation and clear reporting skills.
4. Calm and quick reaction to emergencies.
5. Good intelligence and emotional stability.
6. Tactful interaction with the public, especially children.
7. Minimum age: 18 years.
8. Physical ability to perform duties in all weather conditions.
9. Proficiency in English reading, writing, and speaking.
10. Attend mandatory School Crossing Guard training.

Tools and Equipment: Stop paddle, reflective vest, whistle, and optional equipment such as cell phone, rain gear, gloves, cap, first aid kit, warm clothing, and traffic cones.
