Job summary

The City of Evanston is seeking a qualified professional to administer the Cross Connection Control Program, inspect water and sewer systems, and ensure compliance with plumbing codes and BP water quality standards. This role involves field inspections, data entry into the city’s permit tracking system, and representing the Water Production Bureau in review committees.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma, GED, or higher.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
• Must possess a valid State of Illinois Plumber’s License and maintain it as a condition of employment.
• Must possess five (5) or more years of work experience as a licensed plumber, preferably supplemented with knowledge of mechanical systems.
• Must possess an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency License for Cross Connection Control Device Inspector or must be willing and able to obtain it within 6 months of employment and maintain it as a condition of employment.
• Must possess an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Class C Public Water Supply Operator Certificate or must be willing and able to obtain it within 30 months of employment and maintain it as a condition of employment.
• Must possess an NPDES MS4 Stormwater Inspector’s License or must be willing and able to obtain it within 12 months of employment and maintain it as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains the City’s Cross Connection Control Program and tracks citywide compliance.
• Inspects water-supply systems, drainage and sewer systems, fire safety and backflow devices.
• Reviews plumbing permit applications and enters data into the permit tracking system.
• Performs inspections of storm water detention facilities and monitors completion.
• Represents the Water Production Bureau at design and project review committees.
• Inspects and monitors installation of new water mains and services, ensuring chlorination and testing.
• Keeps records of inspections and corrections and enters results into the permit tracking system.
