Job Summary:

The Critical Facilities Data Center Technician will be responsible for all MEP-related functions for critical facilities maintenance, including Mechanical (HVAC, plumbing, controls), Electrical (lighting, UPS, PDU, generators, primary switch gears), and Plumbing (install and repair piping, valves, filters, hot water systems, and associated controls).

Responsibilities:
  1. Emergency backup and hot water systems
  2. Analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of problems/malfunctions, and take corrective action
  3. Adjust and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, and air conditioning equipment; boilers; ventilating and hot water heaters; pumps; valves; piping; and filters
  4. Install and repair plumbing/piping/tubing; replace seals on pumps
  5. Fire/life safety
  6. Wire single and three-phase motors; run conduit; pull wiring; replace bearings in motors
  7. Install and rebuild pumps and motors; install and rebuild air compressors and heat exchangers
  8. Assist other mechanics and operators with major repairs and maintenance
  9. Install, repair, and maintain electrical controls, switching, and motor controls; operate critical equipment including UPS systems, generators, chillers, and air conditioning units
  10. Monitor and maintain refrigeration, water cooling, air conditioning equipment, boilers, pumps, valves, piping, and filters; report problems/malfunctions
  11. Comply with safety policies for hazardous materials
  12. Maintain a clean and safe workplace
  13. Oversee activities of contractors within the building
  14. Keep records of rounds, readings, logs, and data sheets
  15. Train and notify contractors about critical functions and incident responses
  16. Understand and follow emergency procedures
  17. Ensure understanding of the Critical Facility Work Authorization process
  18. Adhere to engineering guidelines, processes, and procedures
  19. Perform additional duties as needed
  20. Work in 8-hour shifts; may include weekends
Requirements:
  • Hands-on experience in data centers or critical facilities, including UPS, generators, switch-gears
  • Ability to work independently or in small groups
  • High School diploma or GED
  • Operating Engineers license (SMA) or equivalent preferred
  • Certification as a Universal Technician for CFCs or Licensed Journeyman Electrician
  • Knowledge of computer applications like Word and Excel
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service record
