Job summary

MedVet is seeking a dedicated Critical Care Veterinary Technician to join our Emergency and Specialty team in Utah. The role involves assisting with phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, recovery support, client education and continuous monitoring of hospitalized patients.

You will collaborate with DVMs and the patient care team, manage rounds, prioritize cases, and ensure treatment plans are executed accurately.

Qualifications

• Must be a State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Strong math skills for drug calculations and infusion rates.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
• Flexibility with shift hours in a fast-paced hospital setting.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment
• Collaborate with the patient care team on treatment plans and nursing care
• Educate clients on home care, medications, and wellness updates for hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house lab testing and prep samples for outside labs

Critical Care Veterinary Technician

Proposed Schedule: Thurs-Sat 7a-7p

Never a dull moment in Critical Care! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. You should enjoy phlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.

What you’ll do:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred
• Prior veterinary experience required, previous Critical Care, Nursing or Emergency experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
