Job summary

MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets is seeking a Critical Care Veterinary Technician in Utah (South Salt Lake area) to join our fast-growing emergency and specialty team. The role focuses on phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring and nursing care for hospitalized patients.

The successful candidate will have an active State Registered Veterinary Technician license (preferred), veterinary experience in critical care or emergency, and strong skills in calculations and client

Qualifications

  • State Registered Veterinary Technician license is preferred.
  • Prior veterinary experience, especially in Critical Care, Nursing or Emergency, is required.
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, IVs, CRIs, unit conversions).
  • Flexible with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as necessary.
  • Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
  • Collaborate with the patient care team on treatment plans and nursing care concerns.
  • Educate clients on home care, medications and wellness updates for hospitalized patients.
  • Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
  • Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
  • Induce and monitor anesthesia and sedation procedures.
  • Perform in-house lab testing and prep samples for outside labs.

We are looking for:

Critical Care Veterinary Technician

Proposed Schedule: Thurs-Sat 7a-7p

Never a dull moment in Critical Care! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. You should enjoy phlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.

What you’ll do:
  • Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss case(s) and gather additional information as necessary
  • Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
  • Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
  • Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
  • Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
  • Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
  • Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
  • Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing
Who you are:
  • State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred
  • Prior veterinary experience required, previous Critical Care, Nursing or Emergency experience desired
  • Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
  • Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
