MedVet in Chicago, IL seeks a dedicated Critical Care Veterinary Technician to support the emergency and specialty teams. The role involves supervising hospitalized patients, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, anesthesia monitoring, and client education.

State Registered Vet Tech license is preferred, with prior CC/ER experience highly desirable. Excellent communication and ability to work flexible hours are required in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Prior veterinary experience, CCU/ER nursing desired.
• Strong math for drug calculations and CRI.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as needed.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Collaborate with patient care team on treatment plans and nursing care.
• Educate clients on home care, medications, and wellness.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor anesthesia and sedation.
• Perform in-house lab tests and prep samples for external labs.

We are looking for:

Critical Care Veterinary Technician

Initial Hiring Range: $24-$29/hr

Never a dull moment in Critical Care! Our patients need constant supervision to ensure treatment plans are being executed. You should enjoy phlebotomy, placing IV catheters, assisting with recovery and client follow up and education.

What you’ll do:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred
• Prior veterinary experience required, previous Critical Care, Nursing or Emergency experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
