Job summary

Capital Health is seeking a dedicated Patient Care Assistant to join its nursing team in New Jersey. The role involves direct patient care, phlebotomy, glucometer testing, and EKG responsibilities as required. A CNA or Capital Health UAP training path may be offered if needed.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalency, EMT/EMT Academy completion or related experience, and AHA BLS. The position emphasizes safety, communication, and teamwork within a 36-hour work week.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or equivalency.
• Experience: EMT or EMT Academy completion, military medic, PCA in acute care or equivalent, completion of a medical assistant program, or two clinical nursing semesters.
• Other Credentials: AHA BLS. Non-Licensed must obtain before end of orientation period.
• 4 hours Stroke CE annually if assigned to Critical Care/ICU/ED/Neuro units etc.
• Special Training: CNA preferred or Capital Health UAP Training within 90 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Provides for safety aspects of patient care under RN guidance.
• Provides personal care such as bathing and hygiene under RN direction.
• Applies basic dressings and supportive devices under RN.
• Collects specimens (stool, urine, sputum) in a timely manner.
• Records intake/output and monitors nutrition and tube feeds.
• Performs phlebotomy, glucometer testing, and EKGs as trained.
• Maintains clean, well-organized unit and stocks supplies.
• Notifies RN/charge nurse of equipment issues and malfunctions.
