Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Surgical Intensive Care Unit. You will provide direct, hands-on care to critically ill surgical and trauma patients under supervision by a licensed professional, supporting hygiene, mobility, and complex care delivery in a high-acuity setting.

The role emphasizes observation, timely reporting of vitals, and collaboration with a multidisciplinary ICU team.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Active PCT certification by the DC Board of Nursing required.
• BLS certification required.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity team environment.
• Demonstrated attention to detail with the ability to multi-task under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Perform DC-Board-authorized PCT tasks under supervision, including IV care and EKGs.
• Assist RNs with bathing, turning, mobility, skin care, and pressure injury prevention.
• Observe and report changes in vital signs to the RN promptly.
• Conduct purposeful hourly rounding to anticipate patient needs.
• Document care, vitals, intake/output in the EHR accurately.
• Support unit operations by transporting specimens, equipment, and assisting with admissions, transfers, and discharges.
