Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) nights. You will work under the supervision of an RN or licensed clinician to provide direct, life‑sustaining care for critically ill surgical and trauma patients.

Responsibilities include assisting with hygiene, monitoring, accurate charting in the EHR, and strict infection control.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Active PCT certification by the DC Board of Nursing required.
• BLS certification required (AHA).
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in fast-paced, high-acuity team.
• Ability to multi-task under pressure.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, hands-on care to critically ill SICU patients under supervision.
• Assist with bathing, mobility, hygiene, skin care, and safety.
• Monitor patient status and report changes to the RN promptly.
• Conduct hourly rounds to anticipate patient needs and ensure comfort.
• Document care, vitals, intake/output in the electronic health record.
• Follow infection control protocols and PPE usage.
