Job summary

Howard University Hospital in Washington, DC, seeks a Patient Care Technician for the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) on the Night shift. You will provide direct, hands‑on care to critically ill surgical and trauma patients under supervision of licensed clinicians, performing tasks authorized by the DC Board of Nursing.

You will support hygiene and mobility, assist with complex care, document in the electronic health record, maintain infection control, and collaborate with the critical care

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Current PCT certification by DC Board of Nursing required.
• BLS certification required.
• Strong communication skills in a fast-paced, high-acuity setting.
• Attention to detail and ability to multi-task.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct, hands-on patient care to critically ill surgical and trauma patients under supervision of the RN/LPN or licensed clinician.
• Assist with bathing, turning, mobility, hygiene, and monitoring equipment.
• Document care, vital signs, and intake/output in the electronic health record.
• Perform tasks authorized by the DC Board of Nursing, including phlebotomy and EKGs.
• Maintain infection control protocols and safety in a high-acuity SICU environment.
• Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges; transport specimens as needed.
