Job summary

Priority Ondemand is seeking a trained Critical Care Paramedic for our Virginia Beach, VA operation. The role involves direct patient care in the ground transport setting, coordination with nurses, and support of emergency medical teams.

Responsibilities include administering medications, operating monitors and life-support equipment, and ensuring accurate documentation. A strong paramedic background and driving qualifications are required to join our team.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Completion of an accredited paramedic program.
• Completion of an approved emergency vehicle driving course prior to release from orientation.
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support current by orientation.
• BLS – Basic Life Support current by orientation.
• PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support current by orientation.
• CCP-C – Critical Care Paramedic certification preferred or to be obtained within 18 months (CCP, FP-C).

Responsibilities

• Provide evidence-based professional patient care in collaboration with the patient and family.
• Drive the ambulance to support staffing needs when required.
• Administer pharmacologic agents and IV fluids during inter-hospital transports.
• Operate and maintain equipment including cardiac monitors, ventilators, hi-flow, IV pumps.
• Assist EMT/Driver and maintain unit readiness, supplies, and cleanliness.
• Assess patient needs and document care and outcomes.
• Collaborate with online medical control physicians for complex transport cases.
• Communicate patient data clearly in verbal and written form.
• Maintain thorough documentation of patient care and regulatory compliance.

Critical Care Paramedic Overview

Critical Care Paramedic will provide care and treatment of chronically or acutely ill and/or injured patients. Will work together with a team to adhere to the standards of care established by the protocols for the Critical Care Division. The Critical Care Paramedic will work hand in hand with our Critical Care Nurses to provide superior patient care in the ground transport environment.

Responsibilities

• In collaboration with the patient and family, provide evidence-based professional patient care and coordinate care delivery with other members of the healthcare team
• May be required to drive the ambulance to relieve the primary driver during trips with no patient onboard or to accommodate dynamic staffing needs
• Administer and maintain pharmacologic agents and intravenous fluids during inter hospital transports
• Operate and maintain proficiency with all equipment to include cardiac monitors, ventilators, hi-flow, and IV pumps
• Assist the EMT/Driver in maintaining unit readiness and ensures cleanliness and appropriate par levels for supplies used in the ambulance
• Based on assessment of physical, emotional, bio-physical, and spiritual needs, provide direct patient care and evaluate outcomes
• Incorporate the principles of patient-centered care
• Collaborate with online medical control physicians to manage the patient care of complex patients in transport
• Communicate patient’s clinical information clearly and accurately in verbal and written format
• Clearly and accurately document pertinent information in the patient’s medical record
• Consistently demonstrate effective documentation practices and develop strategies to ensure complete documentation of patient care
• Comply with governmental and accreditation regulations
• Ensure safe operations during ambulance related activities in coordination with the Emergency Vehicle Operator
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment of caring for patients and families
• Provide basic patient comfort measures during procedures
• Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required
• Completion of an accredited paramedic program
• Completion of an approved emergency vehicle driving course prior to release from orientation
• 3-5 years Experience as a Paramedic in a high acuity, high volume EMS system. Prefer Critical Care experience
• Virginia Paramedic preferred or National Registry Paramedic with VA Paramedic obtained by completion of orientation
• ACLS – Advanced Cardiac Life Support current by completion of orientation
• BLS – Basic Life Support current by completion of orientation
• PALS – Pediatric Advanced Life Support current by completion of orientation
• CCP-C – Critical Care Paramedic - Certified preferred or obtain specialty certification within 18 months (CCP, FP-C)
• Unrestricted Driver's License with clean driving history, and must maintain a good driving record
• Ability to lift, carry, and balance a minimum of 125 pounds equally distributed and 250 pounds with assistance, to a height of 33 inches and a distance of 10 feet
