The Paramedic role is responsible for the direction of patient care while operating non‑emergency and/or emergency modalities as a rescue unit in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations and directives. The EMT‑P lead, directs, and participates in the delivery of basic and advanced life support in a pre‑hospital or facility situation. When operating as attendant‑in‑charge, EMT‑P provides direction to other crew members on patient care and medical issues. The EMT‑P delivers emergency medical care to patients as indicated by medical control or patient care protocols.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead, direct, and participate in the delivery of basic and advanced life support in a pre‑hospital or facility situation.
- Give direction to other crew members when operating as attendant‑in‑charge on patient care and medical issues.
- Examine patients and report findings to receiving medical staff or physicians.
- Deliver emergency medical care to patients as indicated by medical control or patient care protocols.
- Responsible for completing and recording all required reports or runs made by the crews.
- Operate the ambulance in accordance with safety rules, regulations, company policies, and federal, state, and local laws.
- Ensure that the assigned vehicle is fully stocked and in good running order at the beginning of each shift, after every response, and at the end of each shift.
- Clean patient care compartment and vehicle in accordance with company infection control and maintenance guidelines.
- Maintain office, lounge, bunk room, and vehicle parking area in a neat, clean, and orderly fashion.
- Lift, carry, and balance a minimum of 125 pounds equally distributed and 250 pounds with assistance to a height of 33 inches and a distance of 10 feet.
- Attend training sessions and orientations as required to maintain valid Virginia EMT certification and company requirements.
- Maintain all required certifications as an active EMS provider and supply Human Resources with valid copies of all certifications and driver’s license prior to expiration.
- Perform other related duties as required by management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Current Virginia EMT‑I or EMT‑P certification.
- Current CPR, Healthcare Provider Issue certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)/PEPP certification.
- Current EVOC certification.
- BTLS/ITLS or PHTLS preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with no negative points.
- Pass a criminal background check.
- FEMA Information Collection System (ICS) 100, 200, 700 & 800C certification.
- HAZMAT certification.
