Job summary

South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a licensed Physician Assistant to deliver comprehensive health assessments and inpatient/outpatient care for inmates. You will collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to plan, implement, and adjust treatment plans, order tests, and manage medications and nutrition as needed.

The role includes performing advanced procedures, on-call night coverage, documenting care and ensuring continuity of care within the facility.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program.
• Master's degree with responsible and progressive health care experience and completion of a recognized physician’s assistant program.
• Basic life support certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.

Responsibilities

• Conducts complete health histories and physical examinations for admissions of critically ill patients.
• Orders radiologic and laboratory studies and interprets results for care planning.
• Develops daily care plans with physicians and other professionals; writes medication, fluid, nutrition, and respiratory orders and adjusts treatment as needed.
• Performs technical procedures and provides resuscitation and emergency interventions as required.
• Records daily progress and prepares discharge summaries to support continuity of care.
• Provides on-call support for physicians during night shifts with clinical judgment for urgent needs.
• Serves as a role model, teaches and counsels patients, and contributes to ongoing professional development.
