Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a dedicated patient care assistant to support daily patient needs in the Critical Care unit. You will assist with bathing, feeding, mobility, and documentation, while working under the supervision of registered nurses and maintaining high standards of safety and confidentiality.

This role involves room setup, admissions/discharges, and close coordination with multiple departments to ensure timely tests and treatments.

Qualifications

• Experience in healthcare or patient-facing roles is preferred.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to follow directions and maintain patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Assist RNs with daily patient care activities (bathing, feeding, mobility).
• Record vital signs and input data into the EMR accurately.
• Support admission, transfer, and discharge processes under supervision.
• Assist with patient positioning and safe transfer using proper technique.
• Support nutrition-related tasks, tray setup, and meal timing.
• Maintain skin integrity and use supportive devices as directed.
• Coordinate tests and treatments with other departments as required.
• Answer calls promptly and communicate patient needs to the nursing team.
• Prepare charts for admissions, transfers, and discharges; ensure accuracy of records.
• Foster positive patient relations and professional communication within the team.
• Support age-appropriate care and document observations for patient status.
• Maintain infection prevention practices and proper PPE usage.
