Job summary

Highland Rivers Behavioral Health is seeking a Certified Peer Specialist to provide peer-based support and guidance within the Highland Rivers BHCC or CSU. You will use lived experience to engage individuals, assist with discharge planning, and connect clients with community resources to support ongoing recovery.

The role emphasizes advocacy, warm transfers, and collaboration with the treatment team to promote recovery principles. Equal opportunity employer; background checks required.

Qualifications

• Must self-identify as a person in recovery from a mental health diagnosis and/or addictive disease.
• Georgia Certified Specialist with 40 hours training and certification exam.
• 2 years of professional experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder services.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate groups and activities focusing on self-advocacy and wellness; document outcomes in EHR per policy.
• Identify client strengths and barriers to recovery; provide linkage to community resources.
• Follow up with clients post-discharge to coordinate ongoing services and referrals.
• Assist with discharge planning to ensure continuity of care in the community.
• Orient new clients to the unit and serve as a navigation resource within the agency.
• Maintain updated community partner resources and a current local referral list.
• Document timely in clinical records and participate in team meetings to promote recovery principles.
