Job summary

Montgomery County is seeking Behavioral Health Technicians to support the Crisis Stabilization Center. You will work in a front-line, trauma-informed setting assisting individuals in acute mental health or substance-related crises and helping them toward stabilization and recovery.

Responsibilities include observation, safety checks, de-escalation, and therapeutic activities, with documentation in EHR/EMR systems. Certification in CPI and CPR within designated timelines is required.

Qualifications

• One year of crisis intervention or casework experience in a social service setting.
• Bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, counseling or related field.
• Equivalency: 5+ years of crisis intervention or casework experience may substitute for the degree.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a calm, structured, trauma-informed treatment environment for individuals in acute crisis.
• Conduct continuous observation, safety checks, and monitor behavioral and psychiatric changes.
• Use verbal de-escalation and approved physical interventions when necessary.
• Respond to crisis events, including high-risk emergencies and safety incidents.
• Assist clients with ADLs and facilitate therapeutic groups or structured activities.
• Document observations and interventions in electronic health records and communicate with clinical staff.
• Support infection-control procedures and participate in CPI training and quality improvement initiatives.
