Job summary

Intellect is seeking a part-time Crisis Helpline Responder with proven experience as a helpline counsellor or responder, and training in Crisis intervention or Suicide prevention. This role focuses on providing immediate crisis support and evidence-based counselling to individuals in distress.

Responsibilities include risk assessment, de-escalation, accurate reporting, and coordinating safety and referrals while complying with data protection regulations. Training and empathy are essential.

Qualifications

• 1–3 years of experience in helplines (paid or voluntary).
• Ability to communicate in their native language.
• Experience with high-risk clinical crisis situations related to suicide or crisis.

Responsibilities

• Respond to telephone crisis calls, providing immediate support for those in crisis.
• Deliver evidence-based crisis counselling and de-escalation techniques.
• Assess caller needs and triage for safety or emergency referrals.
• Maintain accurate call reports and referrals.
• Comply with data protection regulations (GDPR).
• Assist in developing crisis management plans for callers.
• Make in-the-moment decisions on course of action.
• Ensure smooth handover to subsequent shift staff.
• Focus shift on Intellect responsibilities and duties.
• Conduct lethality risk assessments for suicide cases.
